Snow Hits Coulsdon 2016

As the New York City, Washington DC and the rest of much of the US East Coast braces itself for 2ft of snow and blizzards (good luck everybody), my very own Coulsdon in Surrey experienced just enough slow last weekend to not have any real impact but to certainly make to place look beautiful.  It would be nice to have a little more (not 2ft and blizzards) beats the mild very very wet and damp winter we’ve been having.

Here are a few shots I managed to grab on an early Sunday morning stroll around the neighborhood.

So the Easter Holidays in the UK proved a fantastic opportunity to get out of London and head to the South West of England and hit wonderful Cornwall with the family.  In tow, as the weather promised to be good, was the DJI Phantom 2 packing a GoPro Hero 3+ Black.  It was the first real opportunity to get out flying again this year.  Lets hope for a good summer and more flying time.

The following Video is a snapshot of some of the wonderful scenery that awaits travellers to the glorious South West corner of England.  Most of the video footage was taken in and around Newquay on the north coast of Cornwall, famous for its beaches and the atlantic swells that attract UK’s surfers.

Hello World from 8dcphotography.co.uk

Little ole me

Little ole me

A quick hello to the interweb from 8Dcphotography.co.uk.  I’ll shortly add further entries but wanted to first introduce myself and explain a little about what I aim to cover on my blog over the coming days, months and years.

First off, the facts.  My name is Andy, I’m a Lancastrian living in Coulsdon (near London) in the UK and amongst other things have a developing passion for all things photography, hence this blog.  My interest in photography initially started as a teenager and over the years this interest has decreased and increased as different hobbies and distractions have influenced my life.  One thing however that I noticed a few years ago is that for some reason, probably unconsciously I kept going back to my photography as a core interest.  So with this in mind I decided to take my hobby more seriously and invested in my first Digital SLR back in 2011.  Having owned numerous digital cameras and having a film SLR when I was a teenager I’d come to realise that the only way to get really creative and have full control over your photography was to go down the DSLR route.  I’d previously owned an early Canon Powershot G2 which really started to re-ignite my passion for photography but ultimately I was set on taking the leap into DSLRs.

So my first investment, after a lot of research, was the Canon EOS 550d (T2i) a very capable crop factor entry-level DSLR camera.  Having thoroughly genned up on the manual I set off into the world to take me some pics and that as they say is the start of my story.

Two years later and I’m loving it.  I’ve added some “decent glass” to my collection,  had some of my photo’s published and built up a vast collection and array of images… some better than others!! which are published on Flickr and now my recently launched site www.8dcphotography.co.uk

So, what’s next I hear you say.  In my next blog I plan to talk about this year’s voyage of discovery, that is my 365 Project e.g. publish a photo per day for every day in 2013.  I’ll talk about my feelings on approaching a 365 project and what I think I’ve gained so-far.

Also, after owning my EOS 550D for over two years now, and being very well served by it I’ve recently upgraded to the long awaited EOS 70D so as I’m sure many of you Canon fanboys will appreciate I plan to write a mini review and my first thoughts on Canon’s latest DSLR model.

Happy reading everybody please feel free to check-out my new Site and Flickr photostream and I’ll be back soon with more blogging.
